Young bingo player’s £37,000 shock win

A young Bournemouth woman was in a state of shock after she won more than £37,000 at her local bingo club.

The 21-year-old winner, who does not want to be named, was at the Gala in Christchurch Road on Thursday evening, 20 March when good fortune struck.

She won the National Bingo Game prize of £35,065, plus the zone prize of £2,145 and the house prize of £70. She completed a full house in 43 numbers, the lowest call in any of the 470 clubs playing nationwide.

The woman, who works in a customer services department, has been a member of the Gala for two years. She normally plays once or twice a week, her previous best win being £140.

“I went to bingo that Thursday as I had a promotional ticket,” she said. “I couldn’t believe it when I was told how much I had won. I was shaking and my mum was crying.”

She is going to give some money to her mother and sister, who was also playing with her on the night of the win, and spend some on a holiday, a car and new clothes.
