Cumbernauld mum’s £270,000 Platinum Bingo shock
A library assistant from Cumbernauld has won more than £250,000 on the National Bingo Game’s Platinum Jackpot play-off.
“I was really shaken up when they told me how much I had won and I am still in shock,” said the 36-year-old winner, who does not want to be named. “I got no sleep at all that night. It is an amazing amount of money, particularly as my previous biggest win was £200.”
She was at the Gala Club in North Carbrain Road, Cumbernauld on Sunday afternoon when good fortune struck and she won a total of £270,486.
This was made up of the Platinum Jackpot prize of £259,113; the Sunday afternoon National Game prize of £10,070; the Zone prize of £1,063; the Club prize of £200 and the £40 house prize.
She completed a full house in 45 numbers, the lowest call in any of the clubs playing nationwide.
“My mum started me off playing bingo as soon as I was old enough at 18, and we play together at the Gala two or three times a week,” she said.
“However she was not with me on Sunday and she had her mobile switched off. I wasn’t able to tell her until 5p.m. I telephoned my husband straightaway and he just wouldn’t believe me. I had to put the manager on to confirm it.”
He is a team support driver and the couple have a daughter aged 6 and a 12-year-old son ready to help mum spend the money. “I will pay off our mortgage first and then have a holiday or two,” she said. “Top of the list for me is Egypt and Las Vegas.”
Karen Leslie. Gala Club general manager said they were all delighted for the woman and there was a great atmosphere in the Club when the win was announced.
